Finance for the Non-Financial Manager will give you the skills and knowledge necessary to understand financial concepts, create and analyze budgets, interpret financial tools, and more. This one-day, instructor-led course is designed for managers with little or no finance experience looking to gain a greater understanding of the role finance plays within their organization. You’ll leave this course with the confidence to discuss and work with your colleagues in finance and better understand the role you play in your organization's financial environment. 

 

What You’ll Learn

Our goal is to remove the nerves people often get when their role rarely deals with the numbers of the business and find themselves in situations where knowledge of numbers and finance is key. 

Understand Financial Reports

  • Identify different financial reports such as income statements, balance sheets, cash flows statements, and more
  • Understand the role these play in your business and identify necessary adjustments to spending habits
  • Identify and understand key terms and tools used in these statements

Become Comfortable With Key Financial Tools

  • Understand ratios and the importance they play in an organizations profitability and activity 
  • Understand the different types of costs and their definitions 

Learn How to Build a Budget

  • Use the tools and skills learned throughout the day to build a budget for your own organization

  • Improve your comfort level when communicating with the accounting or finance department
  • Take more control and accountability of your own budget 

How You’ll Learn

Many of our programs and individual courses are customizable to your organization’s needs. After meeting with one of our Business Development Officers and Training Design Specialists to identify exactly what those needs are, a course will be developed to bring the best out of your employees. Participants will take part in our engaging and interactive course designed with different learning styles in mind. Through an instructor-led discussion, individual and group activities, and real-life scenarios, participants will leave confident with their new knowledge.

Once back in the workplace, participants will be able to refer back to their participant guide and reflect on what they learned.

We work closely with our clients to ensure that we meet all your needs – this includes location. Courses can take place at our location within Mohawk College’s Stoney Creek campus or at any location of your choice. This means, if you’d like us to come to you – we will set up shop at your location of choice.
