As of January 1, 2012, the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) requires recertification for backflow testers after five years from date of certification.

PLEASE NOTE: Instructional time for Tuesday, March 2 is 10:30am-7:00pm & Wednesday, March 3 is 9:30am-6:00pm.


What You’ll Learn

In this two day course, participants will focus on remaining aware of the many modifications to standards, directives, codes, products and test methods in relation to backflow prevention.

How You’ll Learn

Participants will be led by our highly qualified instructor and Cross Connection Control Tester/Specialist, Michael Haslam. Michael taught at Mohawk College for the last 30 years teaching Apprenticeship Plumbing and Cross Connection Control. Michael is also the Cross Connection Control Officer for the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA).

This course takes place at our location within Mohawk College’s Stoney Creek campus.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed specifically for licensed plumbers, water operators, steamfitters, engineers or individuals involved in the water distribution industry.

PLEASE NOTE: The Cross Connection Control Manual has been updated. The manual you received when you took the 5-day course to receive your certification is no longer valid. The cost of the manual is included in the course fees. Your trainer will have your new updated manual in class for you.

Effective January 1, 2012, the OWWA will be charging $125 for certification for a 5-year certificate (instead of the previous $35 charge for one year certificate). These new charges are included in our course fees.

REFUNDS – Cancellation Policy

All sessions cancelled within 10 business days of the delivery start date will be subject to a fee of 50% of the delivery fee. If cancelled within 5 business days of the start date, 100% of the delivery fee will apply. All refunds will be issued by cheque – please allow 2 – 4 weeks processing time.

COVID-19 Protocols

When a person arrives on campus, they must have a mask that covers their nose and mouth for entry into the college. This is for the protection of all members of our community as we move through common spaces, such as hallways and washrooms, once they are past the check-in points.

Hazard Risk Assessments have been completed for classroom or office areas to assess physical distancing protocols to mitigate COVID-19 transmission. In spaces where physical distancing cannot be achieved, the college will provide masks for occupants to wear.

Students have been advised to bring ample water and food for their time on campus. Should additional water be needed, there will be water available through Security staff at all entrance points. This is intended as a reserve supply for students, as required. 

*Mohawk College is asking that students and employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 or have had symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19 complete this online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form so that we can help reduce the spread of the virus. Mohawk College will not mandate this request.
