PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TOP LEADERS SHARE TIPS WITH MUNICIPAL LEADERS AT SUMMIT Innisfil, ON (May 18, 2012) – On Tuesday May 15, 2012, the Town of Innisfil hosted their second annual Leadership Summit. It was attended by over 80 public sector leaders from across the Simcoe County region and featured a panel discussion on “Emerging Leadership Trends”. “It was a wonderful opportunity for the staff of Innisfil and neighbouring municipalities to empower the leaders we have on our staff to polish their skill and aim higher. The value of this opportunity will pay off for years to come,” stated Mayor Barb Baguley. The guest panelists were three well respected, high level managers including: Carla Ladd, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Barrie; Jane Matthews, President of Interim Recruitment from Odgers Berndston (Toronto Division); and William Surphlis, Managing Partner for Grant Thornton Productivity Improvement. The panelists emphasized the importance of accepting new and challenging workplace opportunities, often as means of successful career advancement. Taking risks and having the ability to both recognize and develop the potential in others were key leadership trends shared by these leaders. “The question and answer period provided some candid situational feed-back which I found to be invaluable,” said Karen Fraser, Leadership Summit and Future Ready Leadership Program participant. She added, “It reinforced some of my current practices, while at the same time made me think about how often I actually take risks.” The Leadership Summit is part of a very successful Future Ready Leadership Program that launched in 2011 as a pilot with the Town and Mohawk College Enterprise (MCE). Due to its success, the program is now in its second year. The program was featured in the Public Sector Digest in July 2011. The program is also now under review and consideration for an educational award with a national organization.
