JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager, Training and Customer Relations, The Instructional Designer is responsible for supporting the MCE team in the development and design of value-added corporate and customized training solutions to meet the needs of the business community in three (3) portfolios: Leadership, Technology, and Health and Community Services. 

The Instructional Designer works to improve MCE’s market position and drive financial growth through customization, development, and design of high quality training program materials including E-learn to enhance client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction and learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Training Solutions

  • Helps to position MCE as the leading provider of training and development services in Leadership, Technology, and Health and Community Services
  • Provides select supplementary materials (articles, white papers, videos, etc.) to facilitators to enhance training participant experience and overall customer satisfaction
  • Works with partner organizations and associations including the college to plan and deliver training courses
  • Researches new learning and training techniques and services to keep MCE’s offerings current and competitive
  • Assists Business Development Officers with Training Needs Analysis (TNA) meetings and in some cases facilitates the meetings, to determine the appropriate learning outcomes, content and methodology which best meet the client’s needs 
  • Works with the Manager, Training & Customer Relations to monitor and evaluate learning initiatives and training programs to ensure they are current and effective

Training Design and Development

  • Provides sound Learning and Development leadership by designing and creating content and driving key learning strategies for clients
  • Customizes training products and services based upon client needs
  • Reviews and edits training course materials (PowerPoint, participant guide, coaching tools and job aids), customizing courses and programs to meet quality standards and learning expectations
  • Provides insight and direction to the facilitator in the design and customization of course content
  • Creates and implements regular communications tools with program participants to enhance their training experience
  • Creates learner centered/performance based instructional materials, manuals and job aids that support training transfer
  • Maintains full knowledge of current products and services available in the broader market, staying current on market trends; helps to identify the changing and emerging trends
  • Brings new products to market by working closely with Subject Matter Experts (SME)
  • Prioritizes high volume design and meets all deliverable deadlines with error free content in both customized classroom, e-learn and blended design

Quality Assurance  

  • Proofreads all course material developed by the Instructional Design Specialist and other partners
  • Ensures corporate design standards are adhered to in both classroom, e-learn and blended programs  
  • Conducts training audits to assess overall client satisfaction, addressing concerns and issues, and highlighting opportunities for new sales

E-learn and Multi-Media

  • Designs and creates engaging, effective e-learn courses. This includes creating content using e-learn tools, building quizzes and interactivity, audio recording, videos, testing of courses prior to their release, and refreshing of content in existing e-learning courses
  • Creates and/or revises e-learning material as necessary
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining sustainable and repeatable e-learn modules
  • Identifies and rectifies any technical issues with the e-learn on the website
  • Integrates instructional methods and technologies into e-learn
  • Integrates adult learning best practices into e-learn courses
  • Works collaboratively with contracted vendors
  • Deploys e-learn modules
  • Tracks participants on e-learn platform

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have:

  • University degree or college diploma with adult learning theory knowledge or equivalent education and experience
  • Working knowledge of corporate training program design and development from inception to completion, analysis and quality improvements
  • Knowledge and ability to work in e-learn platform
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office products; emphasis on MS PowerPoint, Word, Constant Contact knowledge
  • Previous experience in Corporate Training & Development role considered an asset
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, who is able to share their knowledge and expertise in a professional manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to negotiate and build relationships
  • Excels at researching new markets to generate new training product ideas
  • Comfortable working in a high-paced environment, handling several assignments and projects at the same time
  • Experienced in e-learn environments and with online learning tools (Captivate, Articulate, etc.)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of programming concepts and experience with Adobe
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with facilitators and contract training designers
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

The incumbent will effectively work with a team of dedicated Learning and Development professionals and Management to provide various Instructional design content. The position is located at the Mohawk College Stoney Creek campus.
