JOB SUMMARY: 
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Business Developer Strategic and Special Projects will be responsible for creating new lines of business, product development and researching funding opportunities for clients that will result in partnerships and revenue generation. This position is responsible for overseeing various projects ensuring successful execution of process and mitigating challenges. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Duties include, but are not limited to:
 
1. Manages Projects
  • Acts as a project manager for the development of products and services 
  • Assesses project risks and opportunities
  • Defines the scope of projects, develops a detailed action plan needed to successfully complete the projects, communicates a plan to the necessary stakeholders, thoroughly documents meetings and follows through on deliverables
2. Manages Request for Proposals
  • Actively researches new business opportunities available through RFP’s
  • Gathers proposal information by pinpointing sources of information, coordinating proposals and identifies risks 
  • Develops the response  
  • Researches, writes, revises and edits drafts ensuring information is accurate and written communication is clear and concise
  • Follows all instructions for RFP’s with great attention to detail to ensure proposals are accurate
  • Maintains quality results by using templates, following proposal-writing standards ensuring accuracy and consistency
3. Creates New Lines of Business
  • Develops business cases for the purpose of developing additional lines of business for MCE locally, across Ontario and internationally. Develops proposals and contracts
  • Understands and respects shareholder/subsidiary relationship between Mohawk College and Mohawk College Enterprise 
  • Builds relationships with potential clients and partnerships to build the MCE brand and spread awareness of MCE in the community and abroad
  • Builds the organizational network through targeted outreach and strong project planning
  • Analyzes and reports on partnership initiatives, forecasts for strategic changes and reports on the feasibility of partnerships
4. Develops New Products 
  • Creates new product lines through: 
  • Researching market demand for various products to determine potential client demand and profitability
  • Assessing market competition by comparing potential products to competitor products
  • Determines product pricing by applying market research data
  • Generates ideas for new products and researches feasibility in terms of profitability, resource availability and potential client demand
  • Works with Mohawk College in regards to new product development such as additional corporate training opportunities
  • Oversees new product execution and processes
  • Researches potential funding opportunities
5. Administration
  • Prepares report analysis for the President & CEO based on research of both new product development and new lines of business as deemed necessary
  • Provides details to MCE’s Financial Administrator for accurate and timely invoicing and financial reporting
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • University degree or college diploma in a related discipline or equivalent work experience (Minimum 5 years business/corporate experience)
  • Project Management skills 
  • Sound business acumen, business development and planning skills
  • Must have worked successfully in a training or adult education environment
  • Ability to research and reach out to new potential companies and clients in order to generate leads, leading to partnerships and revenue generation
  • Able to be a visionary. The ability to be creative, innovative, manage change and seek out new opportunities is essential to the success of this position
  • Ability to nurture and grow relationships in the community with all types of organizations and key contacts
  • Knowledge of academic operations considered an asset
